A Letter of Introduction

August 18, 2011

Dear alumni and supporters of Tacoma College Ministry,

After two and a half long months of anticipating my migration to Tacoma, it is my pleasure to finally write to you as the new Executive Director of Tacoma College Ministry.  Along with our nearly 3-year old son, Reid and our 1-month old son, Max, my wife Anna and I have made the move into a neighborhood four blocks from campus, eager to begin our new chapter.

Lighthouse has a proud history of being transformational for young adults facing the challenges and thrills of college life at UPS.  Hundreds of its alumni have gone on to become humble witnesses to Christ in their families, their businesses, and in their communities.  I am grateful to step into that history, to join you in guiding a new generation of Lighthouse students into lives of Christ-likeness and service.

As you know, students of the University of Puget Sound are a uniquely intelligent, community-minded, and ambitious group.  They are trained to be critical thinkers.  In many ways, this is a difficult context for Christian ministry, even within the scope of the already challenging world of college ministry.  Many UPS students leave their homes in search of a new sense of meaning and truth beyond the traditions in which they were raised.  They will actively seek a spiritual identity, perhaps finding it in Christ and perhaps not.  Other students, devoted followers of Christ, will feel their faith shaken by the things they learn in the classroom as well as by exposure to new experiences and new peer groups.  In each of these stories, and many others, we find challenging questions, and we find a continued need for Lighthouse.

I am thrilled to join you, the supporters of TCM and Lighthouse in addressing these questions.  Many of you have formed lifelong relationships, perhaps met your spouse, or found Christ through Lighthouse.  Or perhaps you have been brought into this story in some other way, a powerful period of spiritual growth while studying elsewhere, as a member of the Tacoma community who is passionate about seeing college students growing in Christ, or as the parent of a Lighthouse student.  Better than I am able at this point, you grasp the importance of Lighthouse’ future.  And it is only with your prayers, support, and wisdom that we can see the changes we hope to see on campus and in students’ lives.  I am anxious to get to know as many of you as possible, and look forward to partnering with you in this new season!

I would love to hear from you.  Please, introduce yourself or allow me to answer any questions you might have.  If you are in the area, I would love to grab a cup of coffee.  Email me at Cody@LighthouseTCM.org, find me on Facebook at Cody.Lail1, or call me at 503-933-3508. Also, If you are not already receiving our e-newsletter and would like to be added to the list, please let me know!  God’s richest blessings to you and yours.

Vaya con Dios,

Cody Lail,

Executive Director of

Tacoma College Ministry
